The stunning Fire Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates played host to the World Corporate Golf Challenge Qualifier with the top 3 teams going through to the UAE Grand Final in May. This event is the biggest corporate golf event in the world and see’s players from around the region battle it out to qualify for the grand final in Portugal in July. The qualifying event was kindly sponsored by OnCourse Golf, Virgin Atlantic, Daman Investment, Visa, Dubai Duty Free and Santa Fe Relocations.
The event saw a tough format of combined Stableford points which meant that both players in the pair had to be on their game. The convincing winners of the event with a fine score of 69 points was the team of Clark Francis and Gareth Mordey representing E Sport. The team played fantastically well as a pair and they only recorded 1 no score throughout their round which is a tremendous achievement. The pair kept the scoreboard ticking over throughout the round and on their last hole they were able to both produce 3 points each to establish themselves firmly at the top of the leaderboard and cement their qualification to the UAE final.
The runner up spot was very closely fought with 2 team’s tying on 60 points. After the countback from the final 6 holes the team of Nadir Mohammadi and Ayaz Afridi who represented ATM Enterprise claimed the 2nd place prize. The pair scored consistently throughout with 30 points on each half. Ayaz put together a fine back 9 of 18 points on his own card to secure the 2nd qualifying spot.
The final qualifying spot was taken by the Price Waterhouse Cooper team represented by Steve Drake and Rob Duce who also scored 60 points but just lost out on the back 6 holes. The pair both scored 30 points each in the tricky format and will look forward to trying to qualify for the grand final.
